New album to be released Halloween 2024; check out the original songs below. These are mostly stories about characters doing things. Drinking at the laundromat. Driving cross country in an old van. Playing songs in the parking lot. Dealing with bad behavior in the air and on the internet. Ignoring good advice. Just trying to get by with some dignity and humor. We’ve tried to wrap them up in music that will make you smile.
Check out the CD cover art.
Check out Blythe Effron’s spectacular review! “Like the folk music giants preceding him, JT Moring has a natural knack for distilling the complexity of crisis into the simplicity of song.”
Here’s 3 minute video trailer with clips of all 10 songs.
Last Request
This was my final project at the inaugural BaHOOTenzie song camp in Joshua Tree (“what song would you want played at your memorial?”), so Steve Poltz, Jim Lauderdale, and Dan Bern should get co-write credits, except I don’t think they want them. I got lots of help on the recording from Grant Bentley, Barry Brown, Michael DeLuca, Omar Musisko, and Peggy Watson. (Download WAV, lyrics)
Econoline
Steve Poltz gave us each 20 minutes to come back and perform a new jingle. I sat in my van and wrote about the first thing that came to mind. I played all the parts on this one. (Download WAV, lyrics)
Row 23
Alternately titled Duct Tape on Row 23 (The Ballad of Maxwell Berry), based on the true story of one stressful airborne pandemic situation. Barry Brown on bass, Peggy Watson harmonies; me on percussion & penny whistle. (Download WAV, lyrics.)
Trestle Bridge
Some people just have to learn their lessons the hard way. Barry Brown on bass, Peggy Watson harmonies, Lissette Ryan on hardy-gurdy. (Download WAV, lyrics.)
Angel’s Laundromat
The characters, scene, and even some of the words borrowed from Lucia Berlin’s short story of the same name. Terry Wardell bass, Richie Strell harmonica, Michael DeLuca 2nd guitar. (Download WAV, lyrics.)
Me and Bob vs the Internet
A talking blues prompted by another bad behavior during COVID, but this time online. Just me on this one. (Download WAV, lyrics.)
